Managing Dental Emergencies
Damaged Teeth
Locate and save the tooth or its fragments handling them as little as possible, avoid touching root portions. Briefly rinse the tooth with milk. If the tooth is not broken, try to reinsert it in its socket. If the tooth is broken or you cannot reinsert it, submerge it in milk. Time is critical. Call us immediately!
Broken Braces
Take out any easily removed pieces, then cover any remaining sharp pieces with over-the-counter orthodontic wax. Broken appliances are rarely emergencies. However, If metal is stuck in your mouth tissue, do not attempt to remove it. Immediately call our office for emergency assistance.
Cuts & Aches
Clean the affected area thoroughly, dislodging any impacted food or debris. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water or hydrogen peroxide diluted with water (50/50). If there is any visible swelling, apply a cold compress to the area. Call our office immediately for emergency assistance.
